На вебинаре возник вопрос, есть ли в контексте предложения 38 в первом задании 32-38 разница между двумя этими понятиями:
A little 38_______________ along, a gentleman was loudly claiming to be innocent and trying to explain why he found it necessary to carry three purses and four wallets.
В данном предложении речь про расстояние, а для расстояния мы можем использовать, и farther, и further. Было высказано предположение, что именно further мы используем с a little — это устойчивое выражение.
Однако Cambridge Dictionary дает информацию, что оба слова могут употребляться с a little, так же как и с along:
— We often use a little, a bit or a lot before further and farther:
[in an aerobics exercise class]
Now push and stretch that arm just a little further and count to ten.
— We often use along with farther and further:
Ben Gunn had told me his boat was hidden near the white rock, and I found that rock farther along the beach.
Соответственно, останусь на своем мнении и выскажусь, что задание составлено некорректно ;D
